What is the Sapodilla fruit ?

The sapodilla fruit also commonly known as ciku is a large berry.

Its flesh has colors ranging from a pale yellow to a brown color with a grainy texture akin to that of a well-ripened pear.

The seeds are black and resemble beans, with a hook at one end.

These hooks can get caught in the throat if swallowed.

The fruit has a sweet, malty flavor.

The leaves of the plant have potential anti-diabetic, antioxidant and cholesterol-lowering properties.

The seeds also have potential antibacterial properties.

The sapodilla fruits have the following nutrients carbohydrates, dietary fiber, fat and protein.

It also contains vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B9 and C.

Trace minerals include calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc.
